Phemes

“Phemes” is a series of pictures appropriated from the world of advertisement as a need to reconstruct the environment and the culture I live in. This project got its name from the Ancient Greek goddess Pheme which is the personification of communication. At this time under the question of whether an image could ever bound in front of human’s needs, my sight turned from the most human-centric parts of the advertisement to the parts that stand out as individuals. Elements that live a short time of joy even inside the most nervous image societies. Elements that I felt I could communicate with, as the point of my view didn’t let them refer directly back to something else than themselves. Parts that reflected human society with sincerity, strength, bitterness, questioning and humor. Images that were waiting for someone to look at them as for what they are and not what they are made for. Shapes and metaphors that I decided to bring out from their world inside the world of humans. Making a transportation from the 2-Dimensional world down to the 3-Dimensional world, giving them body and existence, letting them be part of my society, interact and communicate, form and transform us. The Phemes are to appear in our world occasionally and in different forms, characterized by their physical and metaphorical location.
